Some English Premier League Teams are looking for new opportunities in Asia. Tottenham Hotspur seems not to be left out in this quest as there are indications that the team is planning to make India a place to train grassroots players and coaches also. This was revealed by the clubs Head of football development Mark Jones. From all indications, this deal will be sealed in the next six months.

According to Jones, the Spurs are interested in an Indian Partner whose job would be assisting the club to know the culture before final touches can be put in place. He stated this at the Thai capital during the Yamaha ASEAN Under-13 football tournament.

'Finding regional support with local coaches helps us understand how things run in the country. Over a period of time, we can develop the Indian coaches too.' He said. Making football a part of the school program will also be of great interest to the team.

It is not only Tottenham Hotspur that has shown interest in Indian football. Fellow Premiership sides like Arsenal and Chealsea have also indicated interest. The difference is that according to Jones, Spurs have a long-term plan.

He said the greatest challenge with the Indian boys is to help them work more on their movement off the ball. He also believes that Asia has a huge potential that needs to be tapped and that the players need proper coaching.

'The focus and the intent is there. But they need to learn to get off the ball and work on their movement off the ball,' he said.

'Then it will be a lot easier for them to find spaces in one-two passing. But if you are not spending time off the ball, you are making it difficult for yourself.'

An agreement has been reached between Tottenham and Football Focus Asia, a marketing firm with the launching of Spur\'s Asian development program in Malaysia. In this arrangement, the focus will be on footballers between the ages of 10 and 18.  The will have the benefit of training with Spur\'s team of coaches.

As part of their Asian program, Tottenham Hotspur is already setting out a full-time academy in Singapore. This will no doubt help grassroots teams from the region improve on their standard of play as they will also have opportunities of regular training and camping visits to England.
