Paraguay came into the competition in confidently as they showed impressive performance at the 2010 World Cup and friendly games but failed to impress the visitors in first game of Copa America. They have been runners up in the competition on five occasions, with their last final appearance resulting in victory in 1979. Santa Cruz will be the key player for the red and white stripes as he looks to open his account in Cordoba against the mighty Brazilians. The sedulous Manchester City striker, along with Bundesliga winner Lucas Barrios, will be the main threat faced by the Brazilian defense in this encounter.
On the other hand Brazil is the leading Copa América champions; they won the last two competitions in 2004 and 2007 and also the current holders of the FIFA Confederations Cup. Alexandre Pato, the 21 year old A.C. Milan striker, tested the Venezuelan defense time and time again in the primary match of Group B. His strike just before the half hour mark bounced off the crossbar. Along with strike partners Neymar and Robinho, Pato will be looking to challenge the Paraguayan back line and the keeper to kick start his goal tally for the tournament.
Paraguay are unbeaten in their last five games at international level. Brazil have been inconsistent and Paraguay will fancy their chances of upsetting the defending champions in Cordoba. However in the lat meeting between the two sides, Brazil prevailed 2-1.
